I was co-opted onto the Committee of the British Show Hack Cob and Riding Horse Association in January 1991 following the untimely death of David Cronk. The following November I was formally elected onto the Committee.
I was privileged to serve as Show Director of the National Championships for a number of years initially at Stoneleigh thereafter Arena UK and Towerlands and finally at Addington and I like to think that I made a small contribution to the great success which the show is today.

In 2002 there were significant tensions between members of the Board which I felt were adverse to the interests of the members of the Association and thus somewhat reluctantly I was persuaded to serve as Chairman. I was honoured to hold that position until November 2007 and I believe that I not only brought the Board together so that it did what it had been elected to do i.e. serve the members of the Association but I also contributed to the significant progress which the Association has made during the last few years.
I was delighted that this year so many candidates put themselves forward for election to the Board and that most of them were not competitor Judges. This is something which I failed to achieve whilst I was Chairman. I emphasise that the competitor judges who have been on the Board with me have always maintained their integrity but it is a question of perception. I wish the new Board every success. I know the Board has some exciting and innovative ideas designed to take the Association forward. There have been some very difficult times over the last 18 years but I have enjoyed myself and I hope that I have served the Association well.
