The Scottish Horse Show - Golden Anniversary Celebration
Scotland’s premier showing show and a popular event with exhibitors from across the border is set to mark a special milestone in its history in 2010. The Scottish Horse Show celebrates 50 glorious years in 2010 and is honouring this golden anniversary occasion with a variety of qualifying classes for the Horse of the Year Show and special commemorative rosettes and mementos for exhibitors, competitors and VIP guests.
The show’s life started as the Edinburgh and District Riding Club’s summer event but soon, under the astute guidance of its then chairman, Neil Shaw, developed into one of Scotland’s premier equine events combining the very best in show jumping, showing and driving. In recent times, however, the show evolved into a mecca for showing enthusiasts, with the show jumping classes now taking place at other popular venues purpose built and better suited to the show jumping enthusiasts. The show now boasts an impressive list of qualifying classes for the annual Horse of the Year Show, which is held at Birmingham each October. Traditionally taking place in August, the Scottish Horse Show remains one event that is on the calendar of many top showing exhibitors from across the country.
Its original home was the showground of the Royal Highland Show at Ingliston near Edinburgh where it remained for several years until moving to other venues in and around Edinburgh before finally settling on the picturesque Border Union Showground at Kelso in the Scottish Borders. Speaking about the plans for this year’s event, the show’s Chairman, Tweetie Nimmo said,
“We cannot allow this significant date in our show’s history to pass without doing all that we can to make the day a memorable one. We are enormously grateful to Grandstand Media for their continued support in allocating us so many popular qualifying classes for the Horse of the Year Show. Our President, the renowned pony breeder John Milligan of the Roseisle Stud, is hoping that this year’s show will break all records and attract the cream of this country’s showing elite.”
The show’s Vice-President, Rose Kelbie concluded,
“To our many supporters, friends, exhibitors, judges and of course stewards, who all give so much to the showing world, we hope to see as many of you as possible at Kelso in August. This has to be one of the UK’s most stunning locations and I hope we can welcome new exhibitors making the trip for the first time. We are planning to make this as memorable an event as possible and encourage everyone who attends to help us raise a glass and toast the Scottish Horse Show’s next 50 glorious years.”
