He has been trying to find a balance between his business career and showing throughout that time and has found that he is now starting all over again with his two Grandsons Callam and Sam.
Although his 5 years on the board have passed quickly, Ian says: ‘I feel that great progress had been made and that the Board now has the right people to move the Society forward with pace and momentum to become the number one showing society.’

“I feel very honoured and privileged to have been appointed the Association’s first Northern Chairman and will continue to work hard for all our members.
These are very exciting times for the Association and under the guidance of the current, highly experienced Board the BSHA will continue to grow and provide many new innovations for its membership “
David Ingle David is the newest member to the Board, not having served before. He spent his formative years in North Lincolnshire and now lives in Northamptonshire. His current position, as Manager of Weatherbys Chase, means he is able to work within an industry that has always been a source of personal pleasure. He has, in the last 6 years, played a significant part in the modernisation of Point-to-Point Racing and its administration. He has also been responsible for the recreation of a company that crucially services the sport. Key areas, for which he is best regarded, are transparency, accessibility, and integrity.
Formerly a successful Point-to-Point and Amateur Rider, David was also an accomplished Racehorse Trainer (both Amateur and Professional) and breeder, with close associations to the competition world. Also on the Judging Panel of SHBGB, David has judged internationally as well as domestically with HOYS, RIHS, Dublin, Burghley and South Africa amongst his list of previous appointments.
“I love the judging, it’s a total honour to do it. I will be cutting back a little on the number of appointments I take, as work becomes ever more demanding. But, with the recent appointment to the Board of the BSHA I will still be able to take a close interest in things and make a contribution to the future. I was thrilled to be asked to stand for the election and, having been successful, I am looking forward to meeting more Members throughout the coming year.”
Jo Jenkins. Jo is the Judges Panel for Sports Horse (GB) and BSPA in addition to the BSHA. Having had so much fun from the showing of her horses and it was this that prompted Jo to join the Board of the BSHA.
‘In my opinion it is one of the most forward thinking Adult Showing Associations and thanks to the enthusiastic members it just gets better’. I have been showing as an adult since the mid 1980’s. I have always produced our own horses and so have experienced the ‘highs and lows’ that we all go thru!'
‘One of my main duties on the Board is assisting in the organization of ‘The Nat Champs’ as everyone calls them. This really is the Jewel in the Associations Crown in my opinion. The National Championship Show just gets better and better and we have been very lucky in having some fantastic Show Directors. I am so pleased that many of my ideas for new classes have proved popular with everybody. The dressage section, working cob grand prix and pairs all seem to have gone down well!’
Area of responsibility – Southern Spring Lunch / Liaison with Addington Manor/Searching out new showing opportunities and classes
John Keen. John is a true amateur having always produced and ridden from home; he qualified three horses for the Foxhunter final and competed in the Leading show jumper and King George Cup and the European Eventing championships. John was the co-organiser of the Lonsdale and Fulmer shows, instigated insurance for judges and has organised seminars and assessment days at his home.
‘I strongly feel that judges should be accountable for their decisions and respected for their knowledge and achievements in the equestrian field. They should have the ability to judge horses rather than riders or producers to ensure preservation of true type and members’ confidence. I am always happy to speak to members, who are our association, but must remind them that board members have only one vote on each issue.’
Sue Kenny. Sue joined the Board in 2007 and has a special interest in supporting and promoting amateur owners and riders. Sue initiated the HP and Amateur Horse of the Year awards at the Championship show this year.
Sue serves on 6 judging panels but does not compete under BSHA rules keeping only one show horse, currently a hunter, which usually doubles up as her winter hedge hopper too. Using her business background she is working towards the implementation of new office systems and updating the website with a view to improving communications and efficiency in the office.
‘I am a great believer in increased communication and openness and will continue to strive to bring those qualities to the Association, improving the database and using the website in particular to provide a quality information service to reach all levels of the membership.’

Sue Phillips. Sue is an amateur owner rider who says she is lucky enough to keep her horses at home on the farm and her horses are totally home produced. In her words: this means all my mistakes are my own, but I've had great fun making them. I joined the BSHA 12 years ago when my husband bought, what will probably be, my cob of a life time, Goldburg. Through competing him I made a great many new friends and found I really enjoyed showing.
At a time when the amateurs where not represented on the board I was encouraged to stand for election and have very much enjoyed my six years in office. I am the Coordinator with Grandstand Media for HOYS, sponsorship organiser for the National Championship Show and HOYS and as past secretary am on organising committee of BSHA Spring Show and have instigated the Maxi cob class at the RIHS.
‘If you have time to commit and want to have an input into the future of your association, then why not bite the bullet like me and stand for election. It's really not that scary and you may, like me, enjoy it!’
Area of Responsibility – Sponsorship & Southern Spring Show Committee, Coordinator with Grandstand Media

‘I have been a board member of the BSHA for over twelve years and during that time I have always strived to maintain complete impartiality and transparency in all my dealings for the Association. During my time as a Board member my attendance at meetings has been extremely high. In recent years it has been my responsibility to organise the Assessment Days for potential new judges for the Association, together with their follow-up procedure.’

During that time he started to show again as an amateur, the horses being produced by Colin Rose and his mother. In 1997 he gave up his practice and moved to Ashbourne in Derbyshire to produce horses and ponies.
‘In an attempt to have a life outside horses I am a season ticket holder at St James Park (Newcastle United to the uninitiated) and I race pigeons.’
