Chairmans Address – AGM Deanwater Hotel 15th November 2009
Madame President, Ladies and Gentlemen
I would like to begin by saying good afternoon to you all and it’s great to see so many of you here today. It is my duty to submit the Chairman's Report for 2009 and I would like to begin by stating that this has not been an easy year for the Board, certainly in the first few months of the year .However as I read on you will hear about how much has in fact been achieved leading up to this year's AGM and of course the plans that are already in place for 2010 and beyond.
It was in April that I found myself in the position of "Caretaker Chairman" until the 2009 AGM and my first duty was to try and "steady the ship" and develop a working environment in which ALL Board members felt involved .

AGM 15th November 2009
This years’ AGM was held at the Deanwater Hotel, where mine host Irene Susca, very kindly provided the BSHA with rooms for the AGM and the Board meeting and over 100 members sat down to a wonderful lunch.
Stella Harries our President gave an interesting annual report touching on various aspects of the Associations year including the highly successful Northern and Southern Spring shows culminating in what many have described as the most enjoyable Championships ever! Stella asked for a generosity of spirit in competition to be more prevalent next season – ‘if you are fairly beaten ‘say well done’ she said.
This year saw the reintroduction of the Associations’ newsletter ‘Line Up’ and a rejuvenated website with a constantly changing stream of information including show updates and results throughout the summer and news articles. Other innovations have included a Photographic competition run during the summer months with this years’ overall winner, Imogen Yates taking home prizes including horse shampoo, champagne and a photo frame.

Nigel Hollings our Chairman gave a review of the year and his report will appear in full elsewhere on the website.

VOTING PROCEDURE and JOINING THE BOARD
This is to remind our members about the procedure the BSHA has in place for voting on Board Members. Every year a certain number of Board Members are due to retire and may or may not offer themselves for re-election, you will find details of those members due to retire on page 1 of your Rule Book. All members are able to offer themselves as prospective Board Members. The current Board is very keen that its members take a enthusiastic and active interest in the running of the Association and welcome those members, who can bring some time, energy and perhaps skills, i.e. legal, business or industry knowledge to the Board.
