The British Show Horse Association Sample Image

Welcome to the British Show Horse Association website. This Association is dedicated to promoting the breeding and showing of Hacks, Cobs and Riding Horses.

Shows throughout the country, at all levels, hold our classes, and with both amateur and open sections there is usually something for every competitor. We actively encourage young people to join our Association with the “Rising Stars” final at our National Championships Show as well as every open class awarding a Young Rider special rosette. We have a very active Board which runs a series of shows including our very popular and successful National Championships, member’s lunches and a Probationary Judges scheme.

Please have a look around the site, you will find current news articles, a calendar with the up and coming shows for the season, some fun features, details of our National Championships & the current Rule Book which includes our judges panel. In About Us you will find details of the current Board Members all of whom are happy to discuss members questions. Any queries please do not hesitate to contact the office they are always pleased to assist current and potential members.

In March 2010, its Patron HRH The Prince of Wales launched The Enemy Within Appeal.   Please help Combat Stress reach our £30m target, over the next three years,  to provide better treatment and support to the escalating number of psychologically injured Veterans who are turning to us for help. To donate direct please go to  www.combatstress.org.uk

Valerie Millwood

Members will join me in wishing Valerie Millwood well, Valerie a committed and respected judge, Vice President and ex Board member, has sustained a badly broken wrist, which is on Monday (6th Sept) requiring yet another operation. As a result Valerie will not be able to attend our National Championships to judge and spectate, but sends her best wishes to everyone taking part.

Evening Entertainment at Addington

Moat View’s RC’s unbeaten Quadrille Display Team!

We are delighted to have secured arguably the most successful quadrille team ever to entertain us at the National Championship Show, each evening the Moat View Riding Club’s Quadrille team will present an Olympia Championship Quadrille for your entertainment – please come and support them and show your appreciation!

First a little background - Quadrille is a competition  run by British Riding Clubs, the umbrella organisation to which all affiliated Riding Clubs belong. It consists of four riders and horses riding in formation to music in costume.  It is a closely fought competition with many teams coming from all over Britain to take part in the qualifier which up until this year has been held at Addington in October.  Four teams are selected from the qualifier to go the Olympia Christmas Horse Show in December. This is the ultimate accolade and the highlight of the Riding Clubs’ year. The competition is in two parts:  first the turnout where the Judges look in minute detail at all the horses and riders, with marks given or deducted for cleanliness & condition of horse, saddlery & rider plus judging the costumes. The second part is the routine judged on interpretation of the music and performance.
